Beginnings & Endings

At Tarkett, we believe circularity begins with design. Design defines what something is made of, how long it will last, and what will happen at the end of its life.

This exhibition is a celebration of designers and their potential to act as agents of change when it comes to circular design and material choices — from the beginning of a product's life, right through to its end.

Tarkett has invited three visionary designers — Yinka Ilori MBE, Laurids Gallée and Christian + Jade — to explore how carpet, homogeneous vinyl and linoleum can be used creatively, not as finished flooring products but as material starting points on a circular journey.

"Tarkett emphasises that circularity is a collective effort. By working with partners across industries, we actively recover valuable materials and enable them to be transformed into new products, demonstrating that collaboration is fundamental to closing the loop. "

- Thomas Leneveu, Vice President Commercial Business Unit

Yinka Ilori

Carpet Flooring

Yinka Ilori MBE is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer whose bold visual language draws on his British-Nigerian heritage.

Yinka has been working with carpet; a heritage product for Tarkett, and a material of deep interest to Yinka for its use across global cultures when it comes to ritual activities - from eating to prayer, meditation and sleeping.

Yinka’s showcase demonstrates how circular design and materials can transform a space’s capacity for reflection, wellbeing and joy.

Laurids Gallée

Homogeneous Vinyl Flooring

Laurids Gallée is an Austrian designer based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, who creates distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces that prioritise material and artistic expression over conventional functionality.

He has been working with Tarkett’s homogeneous vinyl flooring, a single-layer material with visual depth and exceptional durability.

When it comes to circularity, Laurids is interested in the notion that a product can be given longevity or permanence, to be cherished forever, because it has been created with a deep focus on quality craft and a belief that every material deserves to be elevated.

Christian + Jade

Linoleum Flooring

Christian Hammer Juhl and Jade Chan are a Danish-Singaporean design duo whose practice emphasizes slow, intentional craftsmanship.

They have been working with Tarkett linoleum, made from a blend of natural, renewable materials and appreciated for its beauty, comfort and durability.

Exploring the notion of circularity as a continuous and uninterrupted state, the duo have chosen to dissolve the distinction between floor, wall and furniture, reshaping what informs the design, form and function of the pieces.

“With thoughtful design, endings become beginnings."
